Dr. E. C. Hurley, DMin, PhD, retired from the U.S. Army with 33 years of service in the active duty Army and Army Reserve. He enlisted in the Army with the rank of Private in 1966 and retired with the rank of Colonel in 2007 with breaks in service to pursue academic programs. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and the Army's Air Assault Medal.
Academically he holds three masters degrees (MA in counseling psychology; Master of Divinity in theology; and MA in Clinical Psychology) and two doctorates (pastoral counseling and Clinical Psychology). He is a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr Hurley holds membership in the International Society for Traumatic Stress Study (ISTSS) and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D). He is a Certified Therapist, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and an EMDRIA Approved Provider with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). As an EMDR therapy trainer E. C was selected and trained by Dr. Francine Shapiro, PhD the founder of EMDR therapy, to train mental health professionals in the application of EMDR therapy in treating military personnel and veterans. Dr. Hurley served as the EMDR Institute trainer in EMDR therapy for the Army's Medical Command (AMEDD). He was trained by Patrick Carnes, PhD and the training faculty of the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) where he maintained Certification and recognization as an Approved Supervisor for a number of years. E. C. has presented at a number of conferences on trauma and addiction emphasizing the importance of understanding the impact of trauma on the development of compulsive behaviors.
Dr. Hurley is the founder and executive director of Soldier Center where he specializes in treating complex combat trauma among military personnel and veterans. He provides advanced training for mental health professionals throughout the United States, Israel and Turkey. Persons travel from throughout the United States seeking intensive outpatient therapy with Dr. Hurley where they receive daily treatment for their PTSD with effective results. Dr. Hurley is joined by a staff of seven additional full time EMDR therapists in providng effective treatment in a timely manner.
As an EMDR Institute Regional Trainer he provides EMDRIA approved EMDR basic and advanced trainings. Advanced training topics include Moral Injury and Suicidality across the Dissociative Spectrum, Treating Military Sexual Trauma wiht EMDR Therapy, Treating Adults abused as Children, and Treating Complex PTSD and Dissociative Exhibitions with EMDR Therapy.
